Indigo has been matured for 8 years in former bourbon barrels and delivers hints of Vanilla, Cappuccino, Dark Chocolate, Lemon grass and Hazelnut. The speciality of this human and artisanal distillery, also resides in its self sufficiency since, in addition to the sugar and molasses it produces, it generates its own electricity from bagasse, the fibrous residue of sugar cane. Inspired by the colour ‘Indigo’, crafted by the ancient Maya using the Indigo Flower (anil) and the colour of Tlaloc the Mayan God of rain.Vincent und Grenadinen, Südafrika, Sudan, Südsudan, Suriname, Swasiland, Tansania, Togo, Tonga, Trinidad und Tobago, Tristan de Cunha, Tschad, Tuvalu, Uganda, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Venezuela, Zentralafrik. This approach has allowed them to create one-of-a-kind rums, such as Cihuatán Xaman XO, uniquely finished in Mayan Ceiba casks. Indigo Rum is handcrafted at the distillery in El Salvador and barrel aged in ex-Bourbon oak casks for 8 years. With a patient parent company the distillery has enjoyed the luxury of time to focus on aged rums, to be enjoyed neat or mixed in your favorite cocktail. From El Salvador comes the Cihuatan Indigo Rum which has been aged for a minimum of 8 years inside American Oak ex-bourbon barrels.

It is on this ancestral legend that the history of Cihuatán rums begins, true ambassadors of El Salvador who reveal all its richness and know-how.Local legend suggests that many centuries ago, a Mayan goddess came to the valley and endowed it with fertile soils and riches. Legend has it that the Sleeping Woman would intercede on behalf of the people of Cihuatán so that Tlaloc would make the valley bloom. The palate is smooth, with notes of vanilla, dark chocolate, hazelnut coming through with hints of Cappuccino and Lemongrass and a smooth finish. In Mayan language, Cihuatán means "the earth next to the sleeping woman" in reference to the Guazapa Mountain whose lines reveal the shape of a woman, goddess who would have conferred wealth and fertility to the surrounding lands. The beautiful indigo blue that adorns the bottle and gift box of this bottling is considered the sacred colour of this deity.
