About this deal

The Barista Pro, Barista Touch, and the Bambino Plus (and that one is a stand alone espresso machine, not an integrated grinder machine) all feature the new “thermojet” water heater, while the original machines (Barista Express and Duo Temp Pro) feature the original thermocoil. I say that the Barista Express hits 3 out of Sage's “4 Keys” formula, because it doesn't have a 9 bar OPV, and if I'm talking gobbledygook, don't worry, I'll translate ;-).

If what you're really looking for is bean to cup type convenience and user experience, meaning that you want to do as little as possible and you want the machine to handle as much of the process as possible, but you want true espresso vs bean to cup espresso, then the ultimate machine for you would probably be the Barista Touch Impress. If you can't justify the cost, maybe the Barista Express Impress. If you're wondering how it compares to other machines from brands like Breville and De'Longhi, I'll cover that in the main review, so let's go: Sage Barista Express In-Depth Review The Barista Express Impress, which I'll talk about below in the comparisons section, isn't quite the same, by the way. Yes, it's an integrated grinder machine, BUT, it's assisted. If you were looking for a machine to take away some of the skill requirements, this is what the Express Impress is about, but I'll get to that a bit later in this post. I'd just leave them at the factory pre-set, and only take them a notch finer if you find you're way down towards the lowest external setting and needing to grind even finer. The Portafilter

The Barista Express is a bit more aimed towards the mainstream market, and they expect Barista Express users to be using “normal” mainstream coffee beans. They recommend the dual-walled pressurised baskets for this kind of coffee (coffee with a sell by date but no roasted on date) and as a result, they've set the over-pressure valve to fire off at about 13-14 bars. However, on the 20th Oct, I suddenly got frothy and not microfoam milk. The machine had started with a rather loud buzz, but that The Sage Barista Express is one of Sage's game-changing espresso machines, and I say “one of” because this is what Sage does, but the “game-changing” comment, where the Barista Express is concerned, comes from the fact that it was the first commercially successful integrated grinder traditional espresso machine. seems to be a known issue with the Barista Express and Pro models. It first took 3 days to get so much as a response, then a further

What I’d do, though, is dissolve a small amount of Puly Caff (it’s about 9 quid for a whopping great 900g tub) in a bowl of hot water, put your baskets and wand tip in that, and the portafilter but try to stand it up so the plastic handle isn’t in the water. But just before you put the baskets etc., in the bowl, dip a cloth in it and give the machine a good wipe with this puly caff solution (other espresso machine cleaners are available, you can get liquids too which are a bit easier as they don’t need dissolving, you just pour a bit in the bowl) leave it for minute or so, and then wipe it off with another cloth just with hot clean water, and then dry it off. If this doesn’t have it looking like new, just do it again and leave it for a bit longer before wiping it off. Re leaving the stuff in the bowl, you can leave it for as long as you like really depending on how dirty it is, overnight won’t do any harm but an hour or so is probably plenty. Just give everything a rinse after. The Barista Express has 18 grind settings, and the Pro has 30, but this doesn't mean the Express can't grind as fine, it's simply that the steps from one grind setting to the next are bigger. FREE YOUR GRIND: The Smart Grinder Pro lets you grind directly into the portafilter, an airtight container, gold tone filter basket or paper filterWhether or not any tank-fed machine can actually feature “true” pre-infusion is a matter for debate among much cleverer people than me, (I'm not even a proper Barista I just play one on YouTube) but pre-infusion would usually be done at line pressure from a plumbed in machine before the pump is then engaged, and tank machines don't have line pressure so it always pumps pressure, but, Sage machines are set to in some way mimic line pressure by limiting the pump pressure initially and then ramping up to full pressure. If you were thinking of going for the Barista Express because you thought it was ultra convenient for getting great cup quality using freshly roasted high quality coffee beans, and you're hoping for a user experience closer to using a one-touch bean to cup coffee machine, then the Barista Touch Impress would be the obvious choice. Whichever you choose, using the Bambino Plus couldn’t be any more straightforward. Three large round buttons on the front allow you to choose a single shot, double shot, or begin the steaming function, and two smaller buttons adjust the milk temperature and amount of foam. There’s precious little waiting around, either: the machine is good to go just a few seconds after prodding one of the front buttons to wake it up.
