About this deal

The Italian ‘Piacentine’ pattern has Italo-Spanish suit symbols and slightly narrow, elongated cards.

Opponent is capturing two cards with one card from his hand (1+3=4). Example: The player's hand contains the 2 of coins, 5 of swords, and 7 of clubs (or batons). On the table are the ace of coins, 5 of cups, and 6 of swords. The player's options are: This was accompanied by the publication of new treatises on all sorts of emerging scientific subjects. It was made in single-ended format until around the mid-20th century after which time double-ended versions are more usual. When this happens some features of the old cards are lost. This game is a Scopa variant with a particular sequence (Napola) consisting of seven cards (from Ace to seven) of the same suit. The team or player who can make a Napola score additional points. Tarot cards were invented during the early 15th century in northern Italy as a permanent suit of trumps ( trionfi). Italian-suited cards are rarely found outside of Northern Italy. In the past, however, tarot cards based on those from Milan, the Tarot of Marseilles, spread to France and Switzerland in the 16th century and later to Austria and parts of Western Germany in the 18th century before being replaced by French-suited tarots during the 18th and 19th centuries. In a few places in Switzerland, the Italian-suited Swiss 1JJ Tarot is still used for games. This is followed in 1379 by another reference from Viterbo (in the vicinity of Rome) in which it is claimed that a new game called 'nayb' Above: reconstruction from several 16th or late 15th century north Italian fragments of partially coloured uncut sheets of cards. The most common version of the separate scale is: seven = 21 points, six = 18 points, ace = 16 points, five = 15 points, four = 14 points, three = 13 points, two = 12 points, King = 10 points When multiple types of captures are possible, players are always free to choose the one that suits them best, with the exception of the ace-capture which is unavailable when an ace is already on the table.

The Guildhall Library Tarocchi cards (shown below) believed to have been painted during the 15th century contain curious symbols and iconography. There are two hand bonuses available which award points for certain combinations of the three cards held in the hand:Cards of Spanish design occur in those parts of Italy formerly under Spanish influence ( Neapolitan, Piacentine, Romagnole, Sardinian and Sicilian patterns) although the ‘pintas’ or line-breaks in the outer frames have been lost. Early examples of the Piacentine pattern also have features related to French Aluette cards. Points are awarded at the completion of each deal. If playing in teams, the team members combine their captured cards before counting to calculate points.

The generally accepted view is that the Arabs introduced playing cards to Europe, via both the Iberian and Italian peninsulas, Once all cards have been dealt and played, leaving no more cards to distribute, the player or team who executed the final capture gathers any remaining face-up cards. Step 5: Scopa Card Game Scoring The game is played until one team has at least 11 points and has a greater total than any other team. No points, including scopa points, are awarded mid-round; they are all calculated upon completion of the round. For that reason, if the current score is 10 to 9, and the team with 10 points captures the seven of coins or a scopa, the team cannot immediately claim victory. It is still possible that the opposing team could end up with a tied or higher score once all points are calculated. Two more bonuses are available to the dealer, as a way of balancing the fact that players in this role are generally at a disadvantage:in which all the individual symbols are part of the whole. Its meanings gradually reveal themselves to us, intuitively. These three patterns are closely related, having been formed in close proximity to one another. The Trentine pattern is believed to be the oldest surviving Italian pattern and the origin of the Bresciane and Bergamasche patterns. Trappola cards may also have originated from this pattern. [3] Likewise, if a player is holding a six and there are an ace, a two, a four, and a five on the table, they should choose the five plus the ace, unless they have already taken the seven or the six of the suit of the ace and unless one of the two remaining cards is of the coins suit and they have not made the point of coins yet. There has also been a distinguished output of ENGLISH TAROT CARDS. By the 1870s a number of English occultists had begun taking an interest in the tarot more…
